Mortgage chatter: HSBC bails and sails, news from PMI, Thornburg, Wells
When I was a kid, boy bands wrote songs about girls, cars, and school. Well, I guess the times have changed. How about, “Away”? A good-sized, relatively well capitalized retail lender here in Northern California sold loans to 26 different correspondent investors and brokered loans to 35 different wholesale investo

Turf Wars: New Rules For Organic Dairies’ Cows
By STEVE KARNOWSKI | The Associated Press MINNEAPOLIS — A long struggle over what nice of milk counts as organic is coming to a head. The Department of Agriculture has issued draft rules for organic milk that would require that the cows be on pasture at least half the year and receive plenty of fresh grass. The proposals are meant to close a loophole that has allowed some huge feedlots to sell their milk as organic, even though their cows rarely grazed on fresh grass. Advocates for family dairy

Challenging Neptune: Underwater Cave Photographers
Cave diving photography is one of the most challenging and potentially dangerous kinds of every human activities. A lot of things can go wrong when you go into a deep cave. Many more can go wrong when the cave is also filled with water. This said, imagine doing the last two while at the same time being occupied with the right angle and perfect lighting of a beautiful underwater cave shot. Not the easiest job on earth, ha? Naturally, this nice of activity requires special training and equipment

Relativity earns out!
Of course, my books from big publishers like Tor earn royalties beyond their advances, but when dealing with tiny presses, royalties are rarely seen; the advance, such as it is, is usually every that ever materializes. So it was to my astonishment and delight that I just received a nice cheque from ISFiC Press, publishers of my Aurora Award-winning hardcover collection Relativity: Essays and Stories. This book was done in conjunction with me being Guest of Honor at Windycon in Chicago in 20

Surprisingly, some salons are brothels
You know, if I ever decide to start a brothel, I am not going to use something like a massage parlor as my front, because everyone does that and they keep getting caught. I’ll have to use an accountant’s office or something. No one would suspect that. Yesterday the authorities raided three “tanning salons”–one on Aurora (obviously), one in Tukwila, and one in Renton–and arrested a bunch of people on prostitution and money laundering charges [PI]. “Federal prosecutors say that Nguyen booked mor
